About us

The future of the CADT’s combined Area Heritage & Information Centre remains uncertain. In the past it has been maintained by the funding it has received from our local councils, where the prime interest has been in supporting tourism. In this respect, it has been the traditional TIC function that has taken centre stage.
Things have changed. Council support for tourism has been dramatically reduced. That ‘side’ of the business is now under threat – and the Corsham Area Heritage Centre must be developed into a visitor attraction in its own right if it is going to stand alone and secure the level of grant-support needed to keep it alive.
Evidence of support from the local community is essential if the quest for such funding is to succeed. Hence the formation of the 'Friends' group (now known as Corsham Area Heritage).
Work on forming the Friends began in late summer 2011. One year later we have 80+ signed-up members – a mixture of Individuals and Corporates. A committee, comprising Chair, Secretary and Treasurer, plus 5 other members was appointed in February 2012 and now meets monthly. Tom Brakspear kindly accepted an invitation to become our Patron.
Corsham Area Heritage has taken over the running of the Heritage Centre. It is represented on the CADT’s Operations Committee and takes the lead in the writing of the CADT’s quarterly newsletter, Arnold’s News. It organises Lunchtime Talks. These conform to a “4th Tuesday in the month” regime, starting at 1pm and lasting one hour. The Heritage Room in Arnold House is the venue. The subjects covered are wide-ranging. Town-centre posters ensure that you know what is coming up. Space is limited – such that pre-booking is essential. Entry is Free to Friends, £2 to others. They are proving to be very popular!
New members are always welcome - we will never have too many of them. Do you take pride in your local history and heritage and want to see it displayed to a wider audience? If you are interested then act now by completing the information form below. You’ll find yourself amongst true “Friends of Corsham”.
